Help Hurricane Victims
In the wake of recent Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, many in our congregation feel a call to answer the need of those affected.
We are working with the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church to determine the most effective means for us to respond to the events of Houston and the Gulf Coast region. At this time we are directing all of our efforts towards the following under the direction of the North Texas Conference:
- Make a donation to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). 100% of these proceeds go to the efforts in Houston and the Gulf Coast regions. At this time, UMCOR is the most proven and effective way to use our resources.
- We are going to ask each of you to be in prayer. Pray for those who have lost their loved ones, and those who’ve lost their possessions. Pray for the first responders and those who are sacrificing what they have for the safety of others. And finally pray that we might all extend compassion, love, and grace to one another in this time of chaos and heartache.
If you are interested in serving at one of the shelters, more information on how to apply to do so can be found at the City of Dallas website.
We are in ongoing conversations with various individuals to assess the needs of those affected and determine the best way to continue to involve ourselves with the relief efforts. As new opportunities arise, we will make those known to the congregation so that each of us can answer God’s call to offer love and support to those in need.
